Ash WednesdayWednesday, February 22, we celebrate Ash Wednesday.
Come join us for this very ancient yet very relevant ritual,
remembering that we have fallen short of who we were supposed to be, yet
entering into a season of turning away from sin, re-turning to God, and
experiencing renewal and new life. Our Ash Wednesday schedule: -
9:00am (or earlier): come by the church office if you would like to
receive ashes at the beginning of your day (call Tom if you need to come
earlier)
-
1:00pm: join us at Resurrection Retirement Community for our midday service
-
6:00pm: join us downstairs for our annual pre-Lent Pancake Supper
-
7:00pm: join us upstairs as we begin our 40-day discipline of Lent,
preparing ourselves for a more somber season of remembering our sin, and
the price that Jesus paid to overcome it.

Lent 2012 Ash Wednesday
is the official beginning of the 40-day season of
Lent, leading up to the death and resurrection of Jesus, the Savior. To
learn more about Lent, click on the Wikipedia article to better understand its meaning.
Sunday Worship
: This is our season of fasting and repentance, as
we gather weekly in our own wilderness to contemplate, confess our sin,
return to the Lord, and be renewed for service in the world.
Wednesday Worship
: Beginning on Ash Wednesday, we hold midweek
services every Wednesday at RRC start at 1:00pm. Evening services meet
downstairs weekly at 7:00pm, lasting about an hour, followed by juice,
wine, cheese and crackers. Our theme this year is "The Six Most
Important Words You'll Ever Know."
Home Devotions
: Lenten daily devotions for adults and families
will be available on the back table. Call if you need one in the mail.
Or subscribe to online daily devotionals: some good ones include Stillspeaking, The Upper Room, God's Pause, or Preview of the Passion.
Lent & Easter Choir
: Contact our Director of Music Ministry, Steve Thorngate, to hear
about the schedule for this seasonal choir, and how you can join in.
Rehearsals will be on Wednesdays at 8:00pm, following midweek worship.
Spiritual Practices
: Vicar Lynn will be sharing with us a
variety of forms of prayer, one each week of the Sundays of Lent. We
invite and challenge individuals, couples, and families, to put these
practices into use, and we are confident that your spiritual life will
be greatly blessed. Your first challenge, and chance to sign up, will
be this Sunday. (If you cannot be with us but are interested, contact
the church office and we will send you the information.)
Fasting
: Many Christians follow the example of Jesus by fasting
in these 40 days. Fasting has been called the “voluntary denial of an
otherwise normal function for the sake of intense spiritual activity.”
Consider fasting one day a week from TV, the computer, social
networking, shopping, or eating certain foods. Or, rather than think
about giving something up for Lent, look for an activity you can add
that will honor Christ and share Christ’s love. Call Pastor Tom if you
need ideas.

Adult Forum: Hollywood Jesus!
During Lent, we will be learning about who Jesus is by watching scenes
from biopics of his life. Join us for clips from the silent era, film
epics, musicals from the '70's, to the more recent versions, including
some surprising movies such as (no, wait - that would spoil the
surprise) that you might not think are about Jesus! Come downstairs on
Sunday starting at 9:15am.
Spiritual Music for the Season of Lent Pastor Tom will again be loaning out CD's downstairs during
refreshments, so that you can listen to music to draw you closer into
the presence of God during Lent. This is for folks who call this their
spiritual home - one CD at a time. Sign your name and the CD you're
borrowing before you take it home.
